World Population Prospects 2012 Wall chart

World Population 2012 presents key population numbers and demographic indicators at the global, regional and country levels. The wall chart presents current and projected population figures as well as related demographic indicators including population density, percentage urban and percentages change in the population and in specific age groups; it also present values for several indicators related to fertility and mortality. The estimates are based on data sources, such as censuses, demographic surveys, and vital registration systems, etc.; when deemed necessary, adjustments are made to the collected information. Projections for individual countries are based on the cohort-component method which is the most commonly projection method used by demographers. The method provides an accounting framework for the three demographic components of change, that is births, deaths and international migration, and relates them to the population affected (United Nations publication, Sales No. E.13.XIII.7).
