Where we work

As all development entities, UN DESA does not have the resources to respond to all requests for capacity development support. It needs to prioritize its interventions in ways that are commensurate to its available resources and comparative advantage vis-à-vis other partners.

Decisions of how and where, and at which level (global, regional or national) to intervene are guided by a set of principles. These include considerations of the Department’s mandate, goals and objectives for capacity development work, comparative advantage and opportunities to partner with other development actors.

High priority is always given to the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and countries emerging from conflict.
